Saint Mary's Clergy and Choir, Easter Morning, 2002 |
Saint Mary's Senior Choir exists to enhance our worship with anthems sung at
appropriate points in the service and to lead and support the congregation in the sung
parts of the liturgy.
As well as singing chorally, the choir provides cantors for the singing of the psalm
and for Morning Prayer.
While we always remember that what we do is to the Glory of God, we also aim to
have fun. Our Thursday night practices are characterized by serious hard work, punctuated
by moments of hilarity and silliness.
We always need new voices, especially men's and most especially tenors. All choirs, it
seems, are at the mercy of the same demographics.
Our busiest seasons are Advent and Christmas (number of pieces) and Easter (number of
services). We usually sing an anthem every Sunday from the start of the choir year - the
Sunday after Labour Day - until about the end of May. We continue to robe and process
until the end of June, then take the summer off.
